| Steer clear of all activities, thoughts, detractors, friends and company, which hinder you from devotion to the Lord and from attaining divine enjoyment, divine bliss, divine capabilities and repose in the true Self.
If one observes these five rules of conduct in life, one can make good progress on the path to God-realization. |
THE TEN GUIDELINES FOR GOD-REALIZATION
One, who seeks to realize God, should assimilate these five rules in his day-to-day life. One should cleanse one's mind of the filth of bias and try to remain impartial. If one has to judge, one should be a little liberal towards others while being just towards one's kin. This will safeguard the purity of one's heart. Favoring one’s own kin makes the task of God-realization more difficult. Keep your heart pure and innocent like that of a child. The truth is innate; falsehood is artificial and requires so many devious means to conceal it, and still it finally comes out in the open. Therefore, try to keep your heart like that of an innocent child. Don’t be too clever. Avoid artificiality. One should not entertain feelings of superiority or inferiority towards others on the basis of Varna, Ashram, caste or creed. One should not waste one’s time and energy in futile disputes. Speak as little as possible in words full of pith and substance and keep away from controversial debates. So, these are the rules of worldly conduct. Then, there are five rules of spiritual conduct also, which an aspirant ought to observe for God-realization. These rules are: Be compassionate towards all beings. In your heart of hearts, you should have a feeling of compassion for all, including a criminal. Do not find faults with Saints, nor should you ever lend an ear to their detractors. Maintain piety of your body as well as mind. Keep your body clean through bathing, etc. and purify the mind through japa and pranayama. Don’t overstrain yourself, nor should you be slothful. Don’t hanker after the transient and trifling sense objects. Even your spiritual and devotional practices should always be free from desires. Don’t pray to the Lord for fulfillment of your temporal desires; rather devote yourself to the Lord for the very sake of His love alone. One who sincerely and diligently observes these rules of worldly and spiritual conduct, has his heart purified and a pure heart realizes the Supreme Self readily
ANSWERS BY PUJYA BAPUJI Who is a Sincere Disciple? Pujya Bapuji says: He, whose heart abounds in devotion to the Guru, who has patience, who is engaged in service of the Guru day in and out, who never thinks he has served enough, who does not hesitate even he has to risk his life for the Guru’s sake, who accepts and follows each and every command of his Guru, who believes devotion to the Guru to be the only symbol of belonging to an illustrious lineage, who treats his brother-disciples cordially like his closet kin, who accepts service to the Guru as his only obligatory action (Nitya Karma) and occasional rites (Naimittika Karma) and recognizes no other duty or action.
What is meant by Self-Realization? Pujya Bapuji says: So long as Jiva does not realize its True Being, it can never completely be liberated from worries, sufferings and doubts irrespective of whatever state it achieves. One fails to attain perfection. The act of realizing one’s True Being, knowing one’s own True Self, is termed as Self-Realization. The subject of this realization is not any other being, but one’s own Self. Therefore, it is known as Self-Realization.
THE ATTRIBUTES OF A WISE PERSON Study of the scriptures-- An intellect capable of discriminating between righteous and unrighteous (real and unreal) Good Memory power Efficiency at work Concentration of mind Consumption of only healthy foods Purity of speech Peace Patience These nine virtues are found in intelligent persons. Those under the influence of Rajasic and Tamasic qualities of Nature do not possess these attributes. It is due to these Rajasic and Tamasic qualities of Nature that they fall prey to many physical and mental afflictions. The person whose intellect has become purified with the effulgence of knowledge, does not indulge in anything that provides temporary pleasure but ultimately leads to misery.
GEMS FROM GURU BHAKTI Do not think of yourself to be the slave of the circumstances. You are the maker of your destiny. Whatever maybe the circumstances, remember, that you are God and the maker of your destiny. You are the author of your book and you can write the story in any sequence that you want. Remember that you are not a mortal body, but all pervading consciousness. Oh! What a shame that even after getting human birth you are perturbed and worried, that you are begging others to make you happy. The key of happiness and peace is within you. Let go of your ego and selfishness. Unburden yourself of the unnecessary want and needs and you will experience the shackles of bondage on your soul break away
SUCCESS FROM MEDITATION – (SADHANA MEIN SAFALTA)
Progress is not confined to a particular person, place, community or society. Any person who wants to, can progress. Your firm determinations will sooner or later pave the path of your progress – provided you really want to. If you make the mistake of trying to be happy from a materialistic life than you will fall in it. If you wish to lead a divine life, sooner or later a congenial environment will be provided, because the firm determinations of the mind inspiration from the soul.
THE VEDANTIC MESSAGE OF FEARLESSNESS
In the world, The Satguru is your only true companion. Devotion to Guru will lead you from insentience to consciousness. All other worldly relations will ensare you in the world, cause you to wander, throw you into sorrows and carry you far away from your Self. The Guru will deliver you from insentience, sorrows and worries. He will bring you to your Self. Do not complain to your Guru, but surrender completely to him. By complaining, you are deprived of receiving benefits from Him. His heart is so pure, that whatever you see in Him, you will gain.
